Biography

Christof van Agt, joined the International Energy Programme of the Clingendael Institute for International Relations in January 2009 as Senior Research Fellow on Eurasian energy sector affairs. From 2001 to 2007 he managed energy policy initiatives with Caspian and Central Asian States for the Office for Global Energy Dialogue of the International Energy Agency in Paris. This involved in-depth analysis of regional oil and gas market dynamics and coordination of stakeholder dialogue with IEA on Central Asia and the Caspian Sea region. 

From 1996 to 2001 he administered technical assistance projects in Central Asia and the South Caucasus on interstate oil and gas networks for the European Commission and assisted in negotiations on the Energy Charter Treaty, Transit Protocol and Model Agreements on Cross Border Pipelines at the Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels. Christof van Agt coordinated various projects on energy sector reform in the Newly Independent States working with the International Institute for Energy Law at the University of Leiden from 1992 to 1996. He studied Slavonic Languages and Sovietology in Leiden from 1986 to 1991.
