Biography

Alastair Crooke is Director of Conflicts Forum and is a leading political and geo-financial commentator. He was formerly an adviser on Middle East issues to Javier Solana, the EU Foreign Policy Chief. He was a staff member of Sen. George Mitchell’s Fact-Finding Committee, which inquired into the causes of the Intifada between 2000 and 2001, an adviser to the International Quartet and he facilitated various cease-fires in the Occupied Territories. Mr. Crooke has worked with Islamist political movements, particularly Hamas and Hezbollah as well as other Islamist movements in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Middle East, for over 25 years. He is author of ‘Resistance: The Essence of the Islamist Revolution’ (2009), and is a regular commentator in the international media, both in print (currently with the Huffington Post and the Valdai Discussion Club among others) and on television. He is a member of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations’ Global Experts Panel.
