Biography

Srđan Cvijić is a senior policy analyst on EU external relations. He is responsible for advocacy in the field of rights, values, and international law in EU external policies, particularly in relation to the use of armed drones, as well as broader topics under the EU Strategic Framework for Human Rights and Democracy. Additionally, he undertakes analysis and EU advocacy concerning EU enlargement (Western Balkans & Turkey), the Middle East and North Africa, and Central Asia. Cvijić joined the Open Society Foundations in September 2015. He holds a PhD from the Law Department of the European University Institute in Florence and an MA in international relations and European studies from the Central European University in Budapest. Cvijić has been engaged in EU policy work since 2005. Before joining the Open Society Foundations, he worked at the Association of Local Democracy Agencies, the European Policy Centre, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, and in the diplomatic service of the Republic of Serbia. He has published academic and policy related articles on topics ranging from international public law and human rights law to EU foreign policy and EU enlargement issues. He speaks English, French, Italian, Russian, and Serbo-Croatian.
