Biography

Dr Leonhard Den Hertog is a post-doc researcher at the Justice and Home Affairs Section of the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels. He is conducting research on the external dimension of EU migration policy, focusing especially on issues of funding and coherence. Leonhard successfully finished his LLM studies at Utrecht University, in the Netherlands. From 2010 he worked on his PhD thesis on the rule of law in the external dimension of EU migration and asylum policy at the Universities of Cologne and Edinburgh. He successfully defended his PhD thesis in May 2014. In the past he also worked as a project assistant on the development of cooperation and civil society for an EU project in Addis Ababa, as a guest researcher and lecturer at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest and as a research and teaching assistant on legal research methodology at the University of Leuven. He (co-)authored several publications on EU external relations and the EU border, asylum and migration policy.
