Biography

Dr. Christian Hellbach is Special Envoy for South-Eastern Europe, Turkey and the EFTA Countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, since August 2016. From 1979-1985 he was on Studies in Law at the University of Konstanz, Germany. From 1985-1989 he was Assistant Professor at the Law Faculty, University of Konstanz. In 1989 he obtained his PhD in Constitutional Law. From 1990 to 1992 he was Desk Officer at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. From 1992 to 1993 he was on Traineeship at the Federal Foreign Office. In 1993 he was in German Embassy in Tashkent. From 1993 to 1994 he was at Directorate-General Legal Affairs, Federal Foreign Office.  From 1994 to 1997 he was at Permanent Mission of Germany to the International Organizations in Geneva. From 1999 to 2000 he was at Directorate-General for Europe, Federal Foreign Office. From 2000 to 2003 he was Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy to Belgrade. From 2003 to 2007 he was at Directorate-General Political Affairs, Federal Foreign Office. From 2007 to 2010 he was Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy to Bogota. From 2010 to 2014 he was Head of Division, Directorate-General Management and Human Resources, Federal Foreign Office. From 2014 to 2016 he was German Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
