Between 2013 and 2014, Bratušek served as the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia. Upon assuming this position, she faced a difficult public financial situation. From 2007 and 2008 she participated in the preparations for the presidency of the European Union and within the broader working group for the presidency, she led a sub-group for the budget.
