Biography

Tobias Schneider is a Research Fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin. His work focuses on the political economy of conflict and mass violence in the contemporary Middle East, and related issues of state weakness, insurgency and counterinsurgency, and security sector development. He also edits the weekly subscription service “Syria in Context”.

Prior to joining GPPi, Tobias worked as a Middle East analyst at IHS Markit in London and as a consultant on Syria and Yemen for the World Bank. He is a regular contributor at the Middle East Institute and served as an expert for the Atlantic Council’s ​“Rebuilding Syria” initiative. His analysis and commentary have been featured in national and international news media.
