Biography

Dr Sergio Carrera is a Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Justice and Home Affairs Programme, CEPS. He is an Associate Professor/Senior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law at Maastricht University (The Netherlands). Carrera is also an Honorary Professor at the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London (UK). Sergio Carrera has authored and co-edited several volumes and academic articles in national and international scientific (peer-reviewed) journals. His main research interests are EU justice and home affairs (JHA) law and policy, with a particular focus on migration, asylum, citizenship and Schengen policies. He has also been widely published on EU criminal justice law and police cooperation, and their impact on data protection/privacy.  Carrera has been an external expert and written numerous studies for the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee, the EU Fundamental Rights Agency and the Committee of the Regions.
