Biography

Dr. Nikola Tomić is a postdoctoral researcher at the UCD School of Politics and International Relations. He holds a PhD in Politics and International Relations from Loughborough University, an MA in European Studies from Maastricht University and a BA in Politics and European Studies from the American University in Bulgaria. His research interests include EU foreign policy and external relations, including EU’s military and civilian crisis management, enlargement policy, as well as external aspects of EU’s migration, environmental and development policies. Nikola’s PhD dissertation investigated the role of agency in EU crisis management and focused on the three EU CSDP missions in the Horn of Africa. Key publications include “Coordinative Discourses in Brussels: An Agency-Oriented Model of EU Foreign Policy Analysis” (Perspectives on European Politics and Society, 2013) and Europe, Discourse, and Institutions: Challenging the Mainstream in European Studies (Routledge, 2014, co-editor).
